Volunteering Wednesday 28th February & Sunday 3rd March

25/2/2024

Dear Friends,

This week we have 2 opportunities for you to join us and complete the prep work for Cannon Hill Mire Dorset Peat Partnership restoration work before we get into bird nesting season.
On Wednesday 28th February  we will be joined by some of the team from Forestry England.  A great opportunity to showcase your incredible efforts x
We will base ourselves by the Dog Splash for this one and be clearing the remaining Birch and Pine from around the edges of the mire.
No bonfire on Wednesday.
As always, everyone is welcome to join us if you can make it.

On Sunday we will base ourselves back up the top near the fire site / "meeting point" on the map.
We will be having our final fire of the season and following the herculean efforts of the team the other weekend, I am confident we will be able to burn up the last of the Rhododendron.  What an awesome achievement!
Hopefully we will also be able to drag the brash from the large Scots pine back into the crop trees too.

Sausages are on the menu at lunchtime on both days.
Traditional and plant based as standard, but do let us know if you have any other requirements.
To assist with the catering, ideally please let us know if you are coming ( not essential, we will have spare).
You can email [email protected] or comment on the Facebook post.

For those that have not been before or recently -
We are onsite from 9am - 3pm ish You are welcome to come and go at times convenient to you.
(10am start on Wednesday)
Stay for the whole session or pop along for a couple of hours.
We always have a plentiful supply of hot and cold drinks and biscuits.
Sausages in bread at lunchtime for those that would like it.
Tools, gloves, training and safety brief provided.
All ages welcome, but under 16's to be supervised please.

Please dress for the weather, uneven / wet ground conditions, possible spikey vegetation and on Saturday, bear in mind there is the potential of sparks etc. from the bonfire, so watch those man-made fibres!
