Conservation Task Day 5th November

31/10/2017

Volunteer Conservation Task Day 5th November - From 9am to 2pm ish
We will be joined by a contingent from the Army Cadets for this one  (10am-2pm), which is great news!
With the extra resource we have a pretty ambitious plan.
Untangling and burning the Rhododendron pulled out and piled up adjacent to Uddens Drive in Cannon Hill South.
There will still be plenty to do for our regular volunteers and any new ones that would like to come along.
Less physical tasks are available for those that prefer them, or why not come along for a cuppa and a chat.

To keep up with the cadets, we are planning to have 2 bonfires, these will be manned by us to keep things safe, so those that said they could help out last month, we could really do with you if you are still free.

You will be rewarded with sausages, hot drinks and biscuits!

It would be really useful to have an idea of who is coming, so I know what cover we have for the fires and of course sausage purchasing (alas we cannot stretch to feeding the army, so they will be self sufficient).

Location map below - Red dot will get you near enough to the right place, we will actually be closer to the entrance on Uddens Drive.

Nearly time for this Month's Conservation Task Day - Sunday 8th October

2/10/2017

We will be working in the Glade at Cannon Hill South from 9am until about 2pm ish.

We have plenty to do with tasks to suit all ages and abilities.
Some will depend on the weather, while others will depend on who we have attending -

1.   Tidying in the Glade, removing some of the bramble and dead Rhododendron, clearing the paths and generally making it more inviting.   We will definitely have a small bonfire to clear the debris.... and cook the sausages at midday.
2.  Cutting back the overhanging brambles and gorse on the path, particularly by the bridge.  (Sarah vetoed this task last month due to the presence of a particularly cute wasp spider who has now relocated).
3.  Checking, logging and clearing out the bird boxes.
4.  Identify and prep a couple of fire sites for our November task (More details below)
5. Litter picking.

Location -
Cannon Hill South is south of the A31, located along Uddens Drive, off Wimborne Road West.
For Sat Nav follow directions towards BH21 7BG , the woodland is on the left before you reach the end of the tarmac road at the turning circle.
Any problems finding us, call 07984 843192.
The map shows the work area (red cross) and parking/access points (blue dots).  We will sign from the first blue dot.

Please let us know if you plan to attend, so we can plan the work and sort refreshments.
Come for the whole session or stop by for as little or long as you wish.
Many thanks to those that have already indicated you are available :-)

As always, hot and cold drinks and biscuits supplied.   For those around at midday.... Sausages!

Gloves and tools provided, but please wear suitable clothing and footwear for the weather and being in the vicinity of the fire.

Next month (Sunday 5th November), all being well, we will be joined by a sizable contingent from a local youth organisation who will be working towards their community award.
The plan is to make use of this extra muscle to clear as much of the Rhododendron that was ripped out by the FC for us in Cannon Hill South, but is a bit of an eyesore.   We will also burn the Rhodo that we cut last month.
It would be great to have a good number to support with this one (Don't worry the youngsters will be fully supervised by their own leaders!).

Sunday 3rd December - We ought to venture back over to Cannon Hill North  -  Any ideas?
