Summer Bench Competition, the results are in!
The following entries all scored 100% which is brilliant!
Jill & John Whitfield
Liz Mitchener
Jacky Bodell
Jake & Will Avey-Hebditch
As we had more than one winning entry, an overall winner was pulled out of a hat at this month’s trustees meeting.
The winners are Jake & Will Avey-Hebditch.
Every correct entry will get a certificate.
Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions which are really useful.
1. More benches between Uddens Drive and the police station – Originally we were expecting the Great Heath project to install more along the trailway. We are now planning to plug the gaps (hopefully 2019 if we can sort funding).
2. Seasonally themed hunts – Yes definitely, we will look at doing these. Probably covering a smaller area as it was pointed out the shear vastness and lack of tips was quite daunting.
3. Youth group involvement - Yes please! That is one of our core objectives. We have been joined on our regular work parties in the past by the Army Cadets and Cubs from Winton and Scouts from Wimborne. We can arrange tasks suitable for youth groups (self-supervised as we do not conduct DBS vetting) either in conjunction with our regular volunteer events of possibly standalone events.
Thanks to everyone who got involved, look out for more games coming soon.
Note - We will probably be removing the bench labels soon as some are badly water damaged so if you are still playing... you have a week or so :-)

Take part in our fun competition to locate our benches.
Over the last year or so we have installed 20 perch benches spread over Cannon Hill South, Cannon Hill North and Uddens Plantation.
Most are on the main routes, but a few are away from the beaten track in a few of the more interesting locations.
We are challenging you to find them by the end of Summer (2018)!
Each bench has a number disc on the back of it and for the competition, a label featuring flora or fauna you can see in the woods.
All you have to do is match the Flora or Fauna to the relevant bench number.
When you have them all....or as many as you can find...... complete the online form from the link above.
We have also hidden bonus tags on 3 of our 8 picnic tables.
You have until Midnight on Sunday 9th September to get your entries in.
In the event of more than one correct entry, a winner will be pulled out of a hat.
Everyone who has submitted a correct entry will be listed on the website and receive an emailed certificate to print out.
The overall winner will receive a unique bespoke woodland related award.
We welcome entries from clubs, organisations (both youth and adult), families and indeed individuals.
Note - Our bird boxes are also numbered, but it is only the perch benches (like the one in the picture above) and three of our picnic benches that are included.
You can print off a sheet below to help you record the benches as you find them.
Safety Note -
A few things to consider.......
All benches are on some sort of track, so no need to head through the marshy bits!
Please let someone know if you are heading off on your own.
Always a good idea to avoid the woods during strong winds.
