Dear Friends,
Firstly, a massive thank you! Since we started late last year, an incredible 750 volunteer hours have gone into our Dorset Peat Partnership mire restoration project. We have prepared a larger area than originally planned and cut and burnt 2,000 square metres of invasive Rhododendron.
There is more we can do, but that will wait for the Autumn.
The plan for Saturday is to move to the next stage of the Dog splash project.
There is a limit to the number of people that can safely work on the decking itself, so we have some other projects we can do in the same area.
1. Construct deck area by dog splash.
2. Drainage work to send the water back into the mire and stop it washing out the road
3. Filling in the wheel ruts in Lizard alley to prevent erosion
4. Cutting Rhododendron behind the picnic benches
These tasks are suitable to carry out without disturbing any early nesting birds or reptiles.
We will not be having any more bonfires until October, which means we will also not be cooking sausages etc. for lunch.
Please bring some lunch if you are staying all day.
For those that have not been before or recently -
We are onsite from 9am - 3pm ish You are welcome to come and go at times convenient to you.
Stay for the whole session or pop along for a couple of hours.
We always have a plentiful supply of hot and cold drinks and biscuits...... and possibly some other treats.
Tools, gloves, training and safety brief provided.
All ages welcome, but under 16's to be supervised please.
Please dress for the weather, uneven / wet ground conditions and possible spikey vegetation. For those working on the dog splash platform, please wear safety footwear if you have it (Don't worry if not we will have other mitigation methods in place!).
