Okay here goes!  Trying something different!  For those of you who do not frequent Facebook, this Blog may be of use to keep up to date with the latest news and even comment on it.....  Please bear with me though as I am new to the world of "blogs".....
One thought to be getting on with - It was one year ago today that we all gathered in the woods for a photograph to go in the Echo!

What do the Friends of Uddens think of the Gov'ts confirmation through DEFRA on 31 Jan 2013 that they will not be disposing of any Forestry Commission land and are endorsing the findings of the independent commission appointed to look into Public Forests. Presumably this is good news and we should be lobbying DCC very hard to remove the site. I attach a link to the DEFRA reports.

Hi Steve, thanks for posting the link, it was on my list to do! It does seem a very positive statement. It does say they cannot dispose of land to raise money for any funding deficit which is great news. The only slight area for caution is that they can dispose of land providing their overall holding is not diminished. Eg sell some marginal land to allow the purchase of historic woodland. I think I have that right! This makes the work of our group to improve the quality and status of our woodland a sensible move.
I would imagine from the vagueness in places on the report, it will be a few years yet before we really know how the FC will run. It is certainly a lot more positive than it was last year :-)
