Forestry England have asked us to let you know that in the next few weeks a contractor will commence some routine forestry operations to thin the crop trees in Cannon Hill Plantation - North.
This work was due to be completed a couple of years ago, but was delayed and some of you may remember the work that took place to refurbish the forest road in preparation.
It will involve a harvesting machine working within the conifer crop to remove a percentage of the trees to allow the remainder to flourish. It is not "Clear-felling" the site.
A forwarder machine will then transport the timber out onto the main forest road (track) where it will be collected by a timber lorry.
See pics for an idea of what to expect.
We will share more details closer to the time, with what we can all do to ensure the work goes as safely and smoothly as possible which will keep the disruption to a minimum.
This routine work is not connected to the small scale felling we are carrying out as part of the Dorset Peat Partnership Mire Restoration.
