Please keep reading to see the news about the forestry work taking place and how to keep safe.

After some work around the dog splash, work is likely to move up the hill, so please get in touch with Paul if they have moved on.
Reminder that this coming weekend's task will now be on Saturday 30th August - 09:00 - 14:00 (Drinks and Biscuits provided).
Harvesting Work Starting This Week in Cannon Hill
Just a heads up that routine crop thinning is due to start this week and is planned to last up to 3 months (including the time it takes the timber to be collected from the trackside).
This involves felling selected trees to allow the remainder light and room to grow.
The method will be using a harvester to cut and process the timber, then it will be extracted to the trackside by a forwarder.
Timber lorries will then collect the stacks.
Fortunately the work is being carried out now, pretty much with ideal ground conditions to minimise damage from the heavy machinery.
SAFETY
Please give the operators plenty of space to work. They have quite extensive safety zones (particularly for the harvester).
If you do need to pass close to where they are working, particularly when they are loading or unloading at the trackside, make sure the operator has seen you and indicated it is safe to proceed.
Don't climb on the timber stacks, there are regulations they have to adhere to, but occasionally they have been known to move.
Please keep dogs under close control or on a lead.
Please follow all safety signage and temporary path closures.
As well as keeping everyone safe, by following the above there will be fewer stoppages, resulting in the work being completed faster and tranquility returning to our woods.
It is worth mentioning that brash (trimmings) will be left on the forest floor. This is an important part of getting nutrients into the soil for the remaining trees. Some unofficial "desire" paths may be lost during the work. If there are any that are really missed, following the completion of the work, it may be a task for a volunteer day..... We always welcome new faces 🙂
