Volunteering Sunday 29th June

24/6/2025

Hi All,

Apologies for the late notice, tomorrow's (Wednesday 25th June) session has had to be cancelled due to illness.

However, we will be back to normal on Sunday (29th June), where we will be working along Uddens Water pulling up invasive Himalayan Balsam.
What to wear - We are in amongst the undergrowth (with brambles and nettles possible as well as the distinct possibility of ticks).
The ground is uneven and could be muddy/wet in places.
Definitely suggest long trousers and even long sleeves.  Footwear to suit too.

We will bring along drinks and biscuits, but if staying over lunch, feel free to bring something more substantial.

To allow people to get to the site without a super early start, we will aim for a 09.30 start (30 mins later than usual), but obviously come later if you prefer.
We will aim to finish by 3pm, but this will be dependent on what we find to pull!

It is a little bit of a walk and it is most likely that we will end up closer to the Ferndown golf club end, so choose whether you want a longer walk at the start or end :-)

We will meet at the following location and work around there until we have we have cleared it, before working downstream towards the police station.
Footbridge on trailway near solar farm - If you can't see us, use the radio on the vehicle bonnet with the sign in sheet or call mobile.

Parking on Uddens drive (where the trailway crosses or in the entrance to Uddens Plantation near the A31. Don't block emergency access obvs)
Parking at Ferndown Forest Golf course (why not grab something to eat or drink at the Forest Inn on the way home.... It is very good!)

Any questions, get in touch,

VOLUNTEERING Saturday 14th June

11/6/2025

Hi All,

This Saturday 14th June, we have a couple of tasks to complete in Uddens Plantation.

A few changes to our usual procedures -
We will be onsite from 09:00 at Elford Heath, but for several reasons expect to finish earlier than normal 13:30 - 14:00.
We won't have the trailer, or usual vehicle, so please bring any food and drink you need to keep you going.
Gloves and any tools needed will be supplied.

We will start off knocking back some invasive bracken which as in previous years is attempting to gain a foothold on our heathland restoration site.
It is working, it is definitely less each year!
We will then be moving to Uddens Water to pull invasive Himalayan Balsam.  This is another massive success story, as we have made a lot of progress over the years controlling it.
For those that would like to tackle the less strenuous balsam from the start, we can accommodate if we have the first aid cover (With the extra 7 recent first aiders, this should be fine :-)

What to wear - both tasks are in amongst the undergrowth (with brambles and nettles possible as well as the distinct possibility of ticks).  The ground is uneven and could be muddy/wet where the balsam is.
Definitely suggest long trousers and even long sleeves.  Footwear to suit too.

It is a little bit of a walk and it is most likely that we will end up closer to the Ferndown golf club end, so choose whether you want a longer walk at the start or end :-)

Elford Heath restoration site (Main track) - Then follow the grass ride up towards the A31 until you see us
